The sixteenth edition of La Finlande en 3 films will take place from 27 to 29 September 2024 at the Reflet Médicis cinema. This year, discover four Finnish feature films released between 2022 and 2024 in Finland: Once Upon a Time in a Forest by Virpi Suutari, The Hullabaloos! by Reetta Huhtanen, Family Time by Tia Kouvo and Je’vida by Katja Gauriloff.

Supported by the Finnish Film Foundation, this event is organised by Irmeli Debarle in partnership with Dulac cinéma to promote Finnish cinema in France.

Once Upon a Time in a Forest by Virpi Suutari (2024)
VOSTFR, 92′

Young environmental activists want to save the forests from the giants of the forestry industry and Finland’s economic interests. How much can the authorities be trusted to preserve nature? Are these young people heroes or traitors to their country? With a benevolent outlook, the film takes the viewer into the magic of Finnish nature.

THE HULLABALOOS! by Reetta Huhtanen (2022)

It’s the birthday of Mökö and Luru, the sons of the noisy but friendly Kiljunen family. For his birthday, Luru has asked to spend a day at Linnanmäki, Helsinki’s famous amusement park. Yet, a series of unexpected events constantly prevent the family from fulfilling Luru’s wish. But the Kiljunen family will not let adversity discourage them!

The Hullabaloos! is a film that will be loved by children aged 4 and over, as well as the whole family.

Every year, the whole family gathers at their grandparents’ house to celebrate Christmas. The pressure and expectations are high to make this most important event of the year a success. But is there any way of preventing family tensions from breaking out once again to spoil the mood? Director Tia Kouvo strives for veracity in the dynamics of the conflicting and sometimes explosive relationships within the family circle.

Family Time has won numerous awards, including the Jussi for Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay.

JE’VIDA by Katja Gauriloff (2023)
VOSTFR, 99′

Je’vida is the sixth film written and directed by Katja Gauriloff. The film follows Je’vida, a Saami Skolt woman, through three periods of her life that are strongly marked by the post-war period, when her people was forcibly assimilated into Finnish society. Shot in sumptuous black and white, the film traces the key events, from childhood to adulthood, of Je’vida’s life, who later becomes Lida. 

The film’s aesthetic blends fiction, documentary and the representation of dreams.
