Kalevi Helvetti (born 1956) is the alter ego of Pertti Kurikka, former guitarist of Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät punk band and founder of Pertti’s Choice. Dressed in a vampire outfit Kalevi Helvetti performs as a musician, visual artist and a poet. Kalevi’s art is always filled with strong emotions and served with humour. Kalevi’s works have been exhibited in numerous exhibitions in Finland as well as in London’s Shoreditch and at the Outsider Art Fair in New York in 2019.
Kalevi Helvetti’s series “Vaaralliset eläimet” (Dangerous Animals) (2023), showcasing Kalevi’s top pick of Finland’s most frightening creatures. Helvetti’s illustrations were created using the technique of felt pen on paper. His creations are currently on display in our gallery as part of the exhibition Imagine Everyday! Outsider Art Finland in collaboration with Pertti’s Choice, from 14 April to 13 July 2023.
