Saturday 6 June at 3pm
Moomins on the Riviera (2014)
Muumit Rivieralla
Directed by Xavier Picard
76 min, in French

Life is peaceful in the idyllic Moomin Valley. But appearances can be deceiving. The arrival of a band of pirates whose ship has been wrecked is set to turn the Moomins’ quiet lives upside down and awaken their thirst for adventure. Accompanied by Snorkmaiden and Little My, they set sail on a small yacht before a storm sweeps their boat to the French Riviera, where they find themselves in the royal suite at the Grand Hôtel. Moominpappa starts calling himself ‘Papa de Moomin’ and gets to join the circles of high society. Moominmamma, who hates the superficial lifestyle, moves back to live under the family’s old boat, accompanied by Moomin, who is overcome with jealousy. For the first time, the family’s unity is at stake…

The French-Finnish film is adapted from the comic strip Familjen lever högt, which draws inspiration from the experiences of Tove Jansson and her mother during their holiday on the French Riviera in 1954.
