Sini Villi uses silk to create three-dimensional textile wall sculptures. She sews organic, flowing elements using handmade silk ribbon. The elements are shaped into a sculpture, which, when hardened from the inside, remains in its permanent shape. The visual language of the textile sculptures draws its inspiration from Villi’s childhood in Northern Finland, from the vast natural landscape. Every autumn large fields were ploughed, forming soft rhythmic grooves that created a visually interesting and soothing surface. Sini Villi’s textile sculptures are based on a similar continuous cycle of nature that can be seen both in the rippling of the water surface and in the annual rings of the tree.

Sini Villi graduated as a Bachelor of Culture and Arts in clothing design in 2004. After her graduation, she has worked widely in the field of fashion and textiles in Helsinki.
