Israel Galván : Carmen
Philharmonie de Paris
1 November 2025 at 8 pm & 2 November 2025 at 4 pm
On 1 & 2 November, 2025, the Philharmonie de Paris presents Carmen, a bold new work by flamenco dancer and choreographer Israel Galván. In this radical reimagining of Bizet’s opera, Galván strips the work down to its essence, breaking away from traditional operatic codes. Joining him on stage are three opera singers, a flamenco vocalist, and a Finnish male choir, coming together in a powerful performance that blends dance, voice, and raw physicality.
Mieskuoro Huutajat – “The Shouting Men’s Choir” – has been redefining vocal performance since 1987. Clad in black, the choir’s 20 to 40 members deliver intense renditions of national anthems, poetry, and even legal texts with striking discipline and precision. Under the direction of Petri Sirviö, the group has performed in an astonishing range of venues, from rock festivals and contemporary art museums to major opera stages across Finland and around the world.
Institut finlandais is proud to support Mieskuoro Huutajat’s participation in this production, which offers a daring artistic encounter between tradition and experimentation.
