POÉSIE POUR UN MONDE QUI BRÛLE : UNE SOIRÉE AUTOUR DE EEVA-LIISA MANNER
THURSDAY 22 MAY 2025 AT INSTITUT FINLANDAIS

Join us at Institut finlandais for an evening of poetry and music presenting Finnish poet Eeva-Liisa Manner and the release of her two latest collections in French. The event and discussions will be held in French.

Eeva-Liisa Manner (1921-1995) left a mark on Finnish and international poetry with her unique voice. Her last two collections, Voiliers fuyez à voiles légères (Sailboats, Flee with Light Sails) and Les eaux mortes (Dead Waters), written in the violent political climate of the 1970s, question the power of poetry by exploring “personal and collective mythologies.” Two journeys through intimate and historical memory, now translated in a foreign language for the first time (published by L’extrême contemporain, 2024).

To mark this publication, Institut finlandais welcomes translator Aleksi Barrière, editor Alphonse Clarou, and Professor Harri Veivo to present Manner and her world. Actress Julie Hega, violonist Irma Niskanen, and cellist Juuli Holma offer us a sensory journey through text and music, where the poet wishes to take us: “through the looking glass.”

With:

Aleksi Barrière, translator
Alphonse Clarou, editor (L’extrême contemporain)
Harri Veivo, Professor of Nordic Studies (University of Caen Normandy)
Julie Hega, actress
Irma Niskanen, violinist
Juuli Holma, cellist
