From 8 September to 29 October, discover Kim Simonsson’s sculptures Moss People as part of the exhibition Cabbage Moss People at Galerie NEC in Paris.

Kim Simonsson has been passionate about sculpture since childhood and he studied design and architecture at Aalto University. Today, the artist is based in Fiskars, where he works on his imaginary sculptures using various materials, inspired by the Finnish forests. Often representing children and animals, his works combine old ceramic and craft techniques with contemporary imagery. His emblematic sculptures Moss People are inspired by Nordic mythology and represent moss-covered characters who embody a utopian society.

For the exhibition Moss Cabbage People at NeC gallery, the artist dresses his sculptures in cabbage leaves. Thus transporting their food on themselves, the Moss People become self-sufficient. Contrasting with the green of the Moss People, Kim Simonsson presents for the first time in France his Silouette sculptures covered in black nylon fibre to evoke the Nordic camos.

This year, Simonsson’s monumental sculptures are also displayed in Lille until 2 October 2022:

“For Utopia, the Moss People are wanderers of the Nordic forests. They are gatherers who wear cauliflower shoes, and sometimes hats to protect them from bad weather.” – Kim Simonsson

The artist is simultaneously showcased from 14 September to 31 December 2022 in the 16th edition of the Biennale de Lyon, Manifesto of Fragility, and as part of the Toucher terre exhibition at the Fondation Villa Datris, Isle-sur-la-Sorgue until 1 Novembre 2022.
